Learn Practical Wisdom of Human Care with a Magnanimous Spirit
Gifu College of Nursing was founded in the year 2000 with the mission of contribution to improving the quality of local nursing services to meet the needs of citizens in Gifu Prefecture in diverse health, medical, and social services. In 2004 we set up the Master's Course for nursing research, followed by the Doctoral Course in 2006. Reorganized as public university corporation in 2010, we have served as an institute of higher nursing education, proposing creative solutions backed up by cooperative evidence rooted in sound research, and produced human resources that should be capable of innovation. As of today, many of our graduates are making their mark in Gifu Prefecture and beyond.
The nursing science aims at improving the quality of the nursing services that help people live healthier lives. On that account, it should provide a theoretical and scientific basis to the activities that nursing professions--public health nurses, midwives, registered nurses, and others--are engaged in. In recent years as care needs has increased in a wider range and higher quality, nursing profession is required not only of the knowledge and skills for human care but tolerant humanity and deep ethical judgment.
Our undergraduate nursing program provides the students with the sound foundation for expert knowledge to be registered nurses. The nursing science is a lifelong pursuit in which they should continue to develop their expertise. Therefore, the college offers the unique educational system under which the students learn the Liberal Arts subjects in their junior and senior years, and they work on the graduate research with hands-on projects on the nursing sites.
Furthermore, in our graduate school, with the view of pursuing the methods of user-centered care based on the dignity of individuals and respects for human rights, and developing leadership that can promote improvement and reform of nursing practice from a broad perspective, the college aims to improve the quality of nursing services and to establish and develop highly practical and applicable nursing science. The Master's Course includes three courses for CNS (Certified Nurse Specialist), and those who complete the program work as specialized nurses within the prefecture. The Doctorate Course has the system in which the students we aim to train leaders who are able to push for improvements and innovations in nursing practices from a broad perspective, as our nursing education is one steeped in both practicality and adaptability.
Since the founding of the college, we have been engaged in numerous joint researches and other projects with the nursing professionals in Gifu Prefecture for the purpose of improving and enhancing the quality of nursing practice. And also, our graduate school has assisted in providing our unique programs for lifelong learning. Henceforth, taking account of our educational and research achievements, we should deepen the ties with the graduates and other professionals more and more, and go forward to realize our college's mission and core principles.
